Legislative News and Issues
Iowa Legislature Passes HF2567/SF2340: This bill, when signed by Governor Reynolds, will give Iowa Law Enforcement Agencies authority to enforce U.S. Federal Immigration laws. SILOS is very concerned that this legislation would result in undue harassment of our Latino population. A similar law in Texas is currently under U.S. Supreme Court Review.
More detailed information on this law, and what action you can take to protect yourselves and to protest this legislation can be found at the Iowa Migrant Movement for Justice website. (Note: as of 11:00 a.m. on March 21, the MMJ Website is non-responsive. Check back soon)
SILOS is developing an action plan that can be implemented locally to help protect the rights of community members in Osceola and the surrounding area. Watch here and on our Facebook page for more information as we finalize details.
