SILOS Vision

Our Vision

Osceola has a long history as a friendly, close knit community.  Our City Motto, “Proud of our history, ready for the future”, conveys this and also suggests that we have high hopes and expectations to maintain these community traits even as we move into an evolving and changing future.

At SILOS, we believe the future has already arrived.

Our community is faced with a changing and diversifying population. The challenging task of blending the traditional midwestern culture with that of our growing population of Latino culture is essential in our quest to be ‘ready for the future’.

In our opinion, the Latino and Midwestern cultures share far more values and traits than they have differences.  For both, family and faith are key ingredients.  Sharing and helping out friends and neighbors in times of need are two more examples.  Both cultures, even if they tend to try not to let it be known, have an almost stubborn sense of independence and determination.  In fact, we believe that the only real difference in the two cultures is language (AND a few different moves on the dance floor!).

SILOS is comprised of a collection of people representing each side of the two cultures. People that believe there has been, for too long, an unnecessary split in these two segments of our community.  We believe that through our SILOS outreach programs and the support of the community, Osceola’s bi-cultural relations will continue to be enhanced, and the split diminished.  Our community uniting will ensure our newest friends and neighbors are able to more easily and comofortably settle in, will foster mutual trust, and build a strong social and economic foundation filled with the promise of being ‘ready for the future’ by becoming a more prepared, welcoming, blended community.
